I don't know how I lost my memories, and I don't know why, but I do know these things, and I hang on to them, clutching the knowledge tightly to my chest:[break] one. My name is Aoki Lapis.[break] two. I am a faerie. [break] three. My only family is Merli, who chooses to not use our family name.[break] four. Other Faerie are not to be trusted. [break] I'm not sure about the last one, but Merli insists that this is the truth, and that I must always be careful, and train my senses to detect them when they're within my vicinity. She told me other fae are not as nice. They're unkind, they're underhanded, and they would hurt me if they could. I asked her once by what she meant by that. [break] She didn't answer.[break] But that's okay. My sister has reasons for her silence, and who am I to poke and prod at that? My name is Lapis, and my story started three years ago. I don't remember much, but I assume this is the day I realized that I had no memories. The only person with me when I awoke was my sister. I remember it was raining heavily, and she had this soft, forlorn look in her eyes, a glimmer of hope at the edges. I didn't know who I was, but she told me my name, and hers, and from there we began anew. [break] It was a difficult start. We bounced from one homeless shelter to another as Merli worked to gather funds. I'd help wherever I could, but that proved to be challenging. Anxiety catches me and makes it impossible me for function normally, especially when I'm in the throws of an attack. I did what I could, but it wasn't nearly enough. Still, Merli was persistent, and within a year and a half she managed to find a small but cheap apartment, and worked several jobs to be able to pay for it. When she had the time she would teach me human customs, get me ready to read and write and speak in their language, and before long, I grew curious of high school, of what it would be like, and I was enrolled. [break] Three years later and we're surviving. None of my memories have resurfaced, and, yes, it's difficult to grasp, especially when people ask me about my past. But it's okay. I'm okay with this life, with my sister by my side. I like the peacefulness of my days, and the ability to work at the flower shop after school.
