Translated in English, the Chūō Ward literally means "Central Ward", and is historically known as the main commercial center of Tokyo, rivaled only by Shinjuku. The most famous district in Chūō is Ginza, built on the site of a former silver mint, and Tokyo's most expensive shopping district. Some of the most noticable places here is the Tokyo City Air Terminal, and the Mitsukoshi Department Store. Other districts in this ward include: Nihonbashi, Kayabachō, Tsukiji, Hatchōbori, Shinkawa, Tsukishima, Kachidoki, and Tsukuda.
